The Good News In Godspell is Still Great News

Though MY introduction to Godspell was relatively late.
It was still a long time ago.
The play had been years past Broadway.
In fact Godspell was already becoming a HIGH SCHOOL favorite and I had not seen it.
I first caught Godspell one Easter after the Sunday Basket Ball Game on NBC. Godspell was broadcast on WNEW channel 29 in New York.
I had run from Godspell and I am ashamed to admit I still have not seen Jesus Christ Super Star.
You see in with my strict Christian up bringing there had been no room in my head for a "hippie" version of the life of Christ.
However, I had just intended to give Godspell a chance.
The film moved me in a deep way.
First Godspell spoke to the artist in me because I was captivated by the fact they set the entire movie through out New York. I love to look for places in the city I have visited and are still in NYC.
Secondly, I have to admit as a student of The Bible....Godspell gets it right.
The film makers convey the parables and what I feel to be the sensibilities and love of Jesus through film as well as any preacher in a pulpit...perhaps better.
With the NYC setting and the updated clothing, loving your brother and sister doesn't seem like such a hard thing to do. The updated clothing and watching it in real settings that are hear today makes you thing about how The Bible is not as far back in history as we would like to believe. And I realized that people that may never had touched a Bible...could be touched by Godspell.
Whatever your beliefs...I suggest Godspell.
I give it a thumbs up as a great musical, a classic piece of film/theater history, and a heart warming and wrenching interpretation of The Gospel Of Jesus Christ.
